Our story began with an immigrant family, a horse-drawn carriage, and sawdust.
It sure doesn’t get any more glamorous than that, now does it?

Four generations ago (think early 1900’s here) a young man was riding on the family’s horse-drawn carriage with his father. Almost every day was the same. They went to the local sawmill, collected sawdust into burlap sacks, and then loaded them onto the carriage for delivery to customers.
After a full morning’s work at the mill packing the sawdust, they then spent the rest of the day stopping at butcher shops and farms to sell their wares.
At the time, they were selling a bag of sawdust for just 5 cents.

Yes, just one shiny nickel!

Tragically, during one of these daily runs, that young man witnessed his father die while delivering product to his customers.
His father had a massive heart attack and died on the spot.
He was just 13 years of age.

That young man went on to become our founder’s father. At the tender age of 13, he went on to provide for his mother and 8 other children. His secret? Work the family business just like his father did before him.

He worked really hard, and chose to stick to the magical formula that his father had taught him along the way. What was that magical formula?

Do what you say you are going to do when you say you are going to do it.
